Heat It To Beat It

by Tiffany / Saturday, September 06 2025 / Published in Cancer, Home

Heat It To Beat It is an event that was created 16 years ago to raise awareness and funds for a special and unique type of surgery for those with peritoneal carcinomatosis. These cancers include abdominal, organs within the abdomen (like the appendix which I had), and ovarian. Heat It To Beat It refers to the heated internal chemo (HIPEC) that kills the cancer cells that are so small that they cannot be surgically removed.

Dr. Sardi and his team at The Institute for Cancer Care at Mercy, in Baltimore, MD, are one of only a handful of medical institutions in the country that specialize in this life saving treatment.

This event is a walk in which attendees, made up of survivors, their family, and friends, raise funds thru sponsors to help in bringing this treatment option to light. CRS & HIPEC is still considered experimental in a lot of places even though it has been around for a little over 2 decades. Patients often have to face a grim diagnosis and deal with insurance companies that do not approve the procedure.

My family and I had planned to walk this September 14th, as we have since 2017, after I was diagnosed in 2016, to help give back so further research can be done and awareness raised. However, I have been diagnosed for the 4th time in 9 years and am going in for surgery once again. We are still raising funds and we would be honored to have you on our team, be it as a walker, sponsor, prayer warrior, or all 3! 😊
